Decoding the Perfect Wedding Invitation Suite: What to Include
Designing your wedding invitation suite can be an overwhelming task, but below we’ve curated a concise guide to help you navigate the process, work out what you need to include for your day and ensure you don't miss any crucial details.
The Essentials
Invitation
The centrepiece of your suite, the wedding invitation, sets the tone for your celebration. This can take any form or design you want, but don't forget to include key details such as the date, time, ceremony location, reception venue and who’s hosting.
Response Card
Make it easy for your guests to RSVP by including a response card. Provide pre-addressed envelopes and consider adding checkboxes for meal choices, making it convenient for everyone to respond. Alternatively, it’s become increasingly popular to direct guests to RSVP through your wedding website, which you can also use to list other key details such a directions, accommodation and itineraries, if you’re wanting to squeeze all your information onto one physical card. You can list your wedding website on the invitation, or even include a QR code, but do remember to consider older generations who may prefer traditional response cards.
Mailing Envelope
Ensure your beautifully designed suite reaches its recipients safely by enclosing it in a mailing envelope. Save time and effort by pre-addressing all envelopes at the printing stage of your invitation design process. For a touch of sophistication, consider including a second ‘inner’ envelope that encloses your invitation suite and lists the names of specifically invited guests.
Additional Detail Cards
Order of the Day
If you already know the full itinerary of your celebration it can be exciting for guests to receive an order of the day card in your invitation suite, to give them a taste of the festivities that are to come. This can be a great way to add more illustration to your suite, and it can be printed at scale and used again as part of your on-the-day wedding signage. These cards are also useful if your reception will be held at a different venue or if your celebrations span multiple days, as you can provide all the necessary details in a fun, illustrated format.
Directions or Illustrated Map
Help your guests arrive on time by including a directions card, particularly useful for older guests or when technology may be unreliable. Illustrated maps are a great way to do this, to mark any local landmarks, road names and add more excitement through illustration.
For destination weddings, plan ahead and provide ample time for guests to make travel arrangements. Consider sending your invitations out earlier to share travel information and consider additional print details to assist guests in navigating foreign destinations.
Accommodation Card
For out-of-town guests, offer information about recommended hotels, transportation options, and any special arrangements you've made with your venue, room blocks or local hotels.
The Finishing Touches
Vellum Wrap
Elevate your suite's presentation by incorporating an invitation wrapper such as a vellum wrap, particularly useful if you are including more than one card as it keeps everything together within the envelope.
Silk Ribbon or Thread
If you have more than one card or a gatefold invitation then consider adding silk ribbon or thread in your wedding colours to tie everything together.
Wax Seals
Finish your suite off with a customised wax seal with your initials or in a design of your choosing. This can be placed on the mailing envelope, the inner envelope or the ribbon/thread tying the invitation together.
