Ben & Richard

A celebration inspired by royal heritage, English tradition, and the romance of the British countryside.

The Story

When Ben and Richard first came to me they knew they wanted every detail of their wedding stationery to reflect them and their celebration, and to be rooted in the history of the venue they had fallen in love with.

With its connections to Henry VIII and centuries of royal heritage, Ashridge House became the starting point for a stationery collection inspired by British tradition, royal country house entertaining, and the grandeur of a classic English wedding.

We started with their invitation suite with a hand-painted view of the whole of Ashridge House. Ben & Richard were keen that the painting include the chapel, as it’s where they were holding a surprise blessing after their ceremony.

They also fell in love with Ashridge’s Italian gardens, which feature twice on the invitations from two viewpoints!

We layered elements to give the feeling of a hazy late-summer’s day, with cottage floral blooms, butterflies, and bees, in a variety of deep pastel colours.

With Ben and Richard’s love of all things royal we wove in some English wild strawberries (which featured on King Charles’ Coronation invitations), and added the Royal Carriage as their getaway car.

Their two spaniels sit outside Ashridge’s entranceway to welcome guests, and their monogram featured across all stationery items.

We finished everything off with dusty blue silk ribbons and thick almond envelopes.

The Day-Of

Ben and Richard wanted to continue the feel of their invitations through to the day-of stationery, with their watercolour monogram, florals, and two spaniels featuring across their suite.

Order of service booklets were created for the their surprise blessing, along with reserved cards, signage, menus, and a seating plan.

The Royal Residences

One of the most distinctive parts of the project was a series of individual watercolour paintings inspired by Ben and Richard’s love of the Royal Family.

Each reception table was named after a different royal residence, from Windsor Castle and Balmoral to Kensington Palace and Hampton Court. Every building was painted individually before being brought together across the table plan, table stationery, and a commemorative artwork for the couple's home.

The Surprise Chapel Blessing

Following the wedding, one of the couple's favourite photographs from the chapel blessing was transformed into a hand-painted watercolour.

The original artwork became a keepsake for Ben and Richard, while printed versions were used as thank-you cards for family and friends - a final piece of the story to take home.
